EP238 - How to take Geraniums through the Winter

On Todays 5minute Friday, we are going to show you how to take your Geraniums through the winter.

So, our Geraniums (Pelargoniums) are perennial plants, there are benefits to renewing them each year, but you can over winter them, if you have a particular variety that you like, then you should over winter them.

Take cuttings from them and over winter these too, as a backup, we have shown you that on past videos. Keep these on the dry side, don’t over water, the soil should be not quite dusty, but definitely dry. The other thing is to reduce the size, you may have plants bigger than this, but work on taking a quarter of it off.

Have you Pre ordered our Dazzling Dahlia's yet, browse here.

  1. Reduce the height by taking off any big stems, also dead leaves and flowers.
  2. These plants will not take a frost, but they can take quite cold. Keep on a windowsill, heated green house, or conservatory.
  3. They will start actively growing again in the spring, depending on the weather, maybe March or April, when we start watering them again, perhaps a good feed etc.
