EP237 - How to take cuttings from Lemon Verbena

On Todays 5minute Friday, we are going to show you how to take cuttings from Lemon Verbena.

So, now we are into Autumn, we have enjoyed the summer plants. This is Lemon Verbena Golden Wind, this is a perennial plant, but if the weather is really harsh, it’s unlikely, but we may lose a plant like this. A good way to safeguard this, is by taking cuttings. We will keep these inside, and if we don’t lose the mother plant, we just get extra lemon verbena which is a win either way.

  1. Fill your pot with compost, tap it down to release air gaps, and fill again if needed.
  2. I am going to take 3 tip cuttings, snip the cutting just above a leaf break, around 1 inch long.
  3. Make a whole in the compost, be careful not to bruise the base of it, so just place it in and gently tuck it in, ensuring the compost is touching the base of the cutting. Repeat with other cuttings.
  4. Give it a good water, and I know many of you won’t have a propagation green house, so cover it with a bag, this will help keep in the moisture. Then pop it on a windowsill, and the mother plant can stay outside, unless it gets very cold.
