On Todays 5minute Friday, we are going to show you how to plant Tulip Bulbs.
We have some fantastic tulips to plant today, they are Carnival de Nice, a really strong multicoloured tulip, double layers of blossoms and quite fragrant too.
This planting method can be applied the same, to containers or in the ground. The benefit of the container is you are in control of the watering, so ensure you have a pot with holes in it, otherwise a waterlogged tulip will probably just die.
The depth of planting tulips really does make a difference, we are looking for it to be 2 to 3 times deeper than the bulb itself, some people may feel this is too deep, but tulips do prefer this.
Don’t miss out on the beauty of a spring garden! Spring bulbs are planted in the autumn and are the key to a stunning display of colour when the spring arrives. From cheerful daffodils to the elegant blooms of tulips our spring bulb ranges, will bring colour to what, let’s face it can be a colourless period of time in the garden.
If you haven't seen our New Mixed Bulb Collection you can browse them here.
They are on a superb special offer !
- I am using a container that is approx. 30cm wide, which is ideal for 3-5 bulbs.
- Put some well drained compost into the bottom, then with your measurement, place tulips on the soil. The flat base on the soil, and the pointed end facing up.
- If you imagine the number 5 on a dice, that is how I am laying these bulbs out.
- Just cover them in the same compost just shy of the top, then tap it down, if there are any air gaps, just top it up.
- Place it outside and give it a nice water. My last tip, is if you live with other people, let them know this pot has bulbs in it. For a while it will just look like a tub of soil, and we don’t want anyone throwing it out by accident.
