5 Minute Friday - Sowing Sweet Peas

Sowing Sweet Pea Seeds

This week I’m showing you how to sow Sweet Pea seeds. These beautiful plants produce vibrant, delicate flowers that smell incredible and can climb to an impressive height to really fill out any space they are give.

Why Now?

If you want to get the most out of these plants, sowing the seeds in October or November will give them the best opportunity to establish strong roots. This way you will get the most out of the annual lifespan of your Sweet Peas and produce more robust plants, which is perfect for the fickle UK weather.

What You’ll Need:

  • Sweet Pea seeds

  • Pots

  • A Plate
  • Compost

Step-by-Step:

  1. Start by filling your pot with compost, leaving a little room to cover over the seeds.
  2. Take your seeds and place on the surface of the compost evenly spread out.
  3. Push your seeds just below the surface, roughly as deep as the seed itself is tall
  4. Cover your seeds over with a light layer of compost and water well.

Aftercare:

Keep the plants in a windowsill, cold green house, or cold frame. Sweet Peas don't want to be too warm, so keeping them somewhere light but cool will be perfect to help them grow.
