Planting up a Pelargonium Container
This week I’m showing you how to plant up a container that will bring an unbeatable wave of colour this summer, with just one family of plants! Picking a mixture of upright and trailing Pelargoniums is key to giving your container a stunning tiered look.
This will give you a natural variation in height, with a central focal plant and stunning cascades of flowers around the outside of the container!
Why Now?
This is the ideal time to organise a container as the weather is beginning to improve, meaning you'll want to start spending more time in the garden (both gardening and simply enjoying the space!) While it may be a little cold for Pelargoniums at this point (depending on where you live) starting the plants off in a frost-free space now will give them the perfect opportunity to settle into the container before you really want them outside bringing that unbeatable colour!
What You’ll Need:
-
A container
-
A variety of trailing and upright Pelargoniums
- Compost
Step-by-Step:
- Fill your container with compost so that your plants sit at the right height.
- Place your plants into the container to check their placement.
- Make a few holes just a little bigger than your plugs.
- Drop the plugs in and tuck them in before giving them a good water.
Aftercare:
As Pelargoniums aren't frost hardy you might want to wait until all threat of frost is passed before moving your pot outside to give your plants the best chance to thrive in the summer!
