Planting up a Herb Container
This week I’m showing you how to plant up a container that will give you access to loads of incredible herbs for your kitchen. Not only is this container a practical way of bringing your garden and kitchen together, but with the right herbs it can also look perfect in any existing garden.
Why Now?
Getting a herb container planted up now is perfect as it can be kept either outside in the cold (as all the herbs we are using are hardy in the UK) or be kept inside, both of which will see the herbs thriving.
What You’ll Need:
-
A container
-
A variety of herbs
- Compost
Step-by-Step:
- Fill your container with compost so that your largest plant sits at the right height.
- Place your plants into the container in reverse size order, filling in the compost to give the smaller ones the extra height needed.
- Fill in the gaps in the compost and give the container a good water
Aftercare:
Keep the plants watered, although don't overwater them, and ensure they can drain efficiently. Most herbs are relatively low-maintenance, so keeping them watered (but not sitting damp) and ensuring they can get some sun will allow your one-pot garden to thrive in no time.
