Oregano Hot and Spicy is a very aromatic herb with a strong, spicy flavour slightly reminiscent of a mild chilli. This spicy flavour makes it a very good herb to use with spicy foods especially Mexican cuisine. The leaves are a bright, rich green and can be used dry or fresh.

Oregano is a member of the Lamiaceae family native to temperate regions of Western and Southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region. They are perennial herbs which usually have pink or purple flowers and olive green foliage. Grown mostly for the culinary use of its leaves which are slightly unusual in that they can often have more flavour when dried rather than fresh. They have a strong, aromatic and slightly bitter flavour which can sometimes be strong enough to numb the tongue. It's a herb most widely used in Italian cuisine even sometimes being known as "the pizza herb". It combines well with spicy foods and is used to add flavour to salads, meat dishes and sauces or sprinkled on dishes when served.

Our pot & plant size explained

At Newlands Nursery we grow and sell plants in a variety of different sizes, from small starter plants up to planted containers.

We know it can be tricky to picture the size of each plant. This page gives you an idea of the size of the plants we are sending out.

Please keep in mind that plants vary from one season to the next. The size of the plant refers to the pot or plug it is grown in, rather than the height of the plant, unless specifically mentioned on the plant page.
