Named after Hilary Clinton this Mint is a hybrid between Apple and Lime Mints. The plant has a prostrate but rounded habit with rich green foliage with hairy stems and light purple flowers during the summer. It has a strong, fruity scent similar to spearmint but with a strong hint of lemon which lends itself very well to making lemonade.
Grows to a height of around 30cm and spreads around the same.

Mentha Spp. 'Hillary's Sweet Lemon'
About the Mint 'family': Mint is a very commonly known herb of the Lamiaceae family. Mints are very aromatic herbs with a huge amount of uses as both a culinary herb and for its scent. They are usually perennial herbs with aromatic, slightly hairy or downy leaves with serrated edges which come in a range of colours depending on the variety. One of the best uses for Mint is to be planted by a path where you'll brush past it releasing the leaf's incredible scent. Mint flowers are usually small and compact, being attractive to bees and butterflies and range from white to purple or red. The leaves are used fresh or dried for many culinary purposes and have a fresh, crisp, aromatic flavour with a very characteristic cool aftertaste. Traditionally a compliment to lamb dishes, Mint is also used in teas, drinks, jellies, syrups, candies, ice creams and sauces. The are often used to flavour dishes as well as a garnish. Apart from it's use to flavour food it is also widely used in toothpaste and for its scent in perfumes and cosmetics. Most Mints will spread quite voraciously if given the chance so it can be best to keep Mints in a pot or container.

Pot sizes explained

At Newlands Nursery we grow and sell plants in a variety of different sizes, from small starter plants up to planted containers.

We know it can be tricky to picture the size of each plant. This page gives you an idea of the size of the plants we are sending out.

Please keep in mind that plants vary from one season to the next. The size of the plant refers to the pot or plug it is grown in, rather than the height of the plant, unless specifically mentioned on the plant page.

Starter Plant (Plug Plant)

Plug Size: 2cm by 4cm. Our most popular size. This is often the most economical way of buying plants and is a great way to get a head start on the season. Generally this size is best to be potted up before planting out.

Jumbo Plug

Plug Size: 6cm by 7cm. A fantastic alternative to a 9cm pot and saves on plastic too. The plants in this size are well established and give you a head start. This size is perfect for planting straight into containers and baskets as well as the garden.
