Chamaemelum nobile 'Treneague'
About the Chamomile 'Family': Chamomile is a herbaceous, daisy like perennial plant from the Asteraceae family. Chamaemelum nobile otherwise known as Roman Chamomile, English Chamomile or Garden Chamomile is the variety most widely known for its medicinal and ornamental uses. It's a low growing plant often found growing in fields which has daisy like flowers and soft, downy leaves. Chamomile is well known for it's use in teas and is reputed to be a calming agent which induces sleep and reduces stress.
About Chamomile Lawn: An excellent ground covering Chamomile. While all Chamomile's are low growing, this evergreen, carpet-forming variety excels at it. An evenly growing mat of springy, fern like green leaves with a lovely fragrance especially when lightly brushed or trodden on. This is without a doubt the best variety for Chamomile lawns (as the name implies) as it doesn't flower and flourishes all year round.
Growing only a height of around 10cm but spreading to about 30cm, this plant makes for excellent groundcover and is a great alternative to grass lawns.
