Lavender Boysenberry Ruffles

Lavender Boysenberry Ruffles: A dense, compact perennial French Lavender with an upright habit and needle like green foliage. Boysenberry Ruffles usually blooms slightly earlier than other Lavenders. The flower heads are a deep burgundy red with large, frilly pale pink bracts on top.
Grows to a height of around 50-60cm and spreads to around 40-50cm.

About the Lavender 'Family': Lavender is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants from the Lamiaceae family. The two main types grown ornamentally are 'angustifolia' or 'English Lavender and 'stoechas' or French Lavender. A very useful herb which is grown as culinary herbs, ornamental perennials and commercially for their essential oils. Lavenders are very aromatic and have a sweet, citrusy fragrance similar to lemon. They are very attractive to pollinating insects particularly Bees which make high quality, Monofloral Lavender Honey. Lavender is used as a flavouring to pasta, salads, dressings and desserts. The flower buds and leaves are used in teas, jams, candies, ice creams and baked goods. It can be used in place of Rosemary and has a somewhat more delicate flavour which can increase when dried rather than fresh. The essential oils of Lavender have antiseptic properties and are used in a wide array of products. They're used as fragrances in cosmetics and bath products especially soaps.

Is this plant "garden ready"

Maybe, we prefer our plug plants (also known as starter plants) to be potted up before going into the garden. The ideal size is a 9 cm pot, but it can be slightly smaller or larger if you would prefer. In the warmer months you may get away with planting straight out, but it is probably not worth the risk.

What compost should I use?

A good quality multipurpose compost is idea for this. You can use your own compost but make sure you know that it is not too high (or low) in nutrients. As with many plants especially Lavender make sure you have plenty of drainage.

Will I get the plants in the picture?

Yes, In the main picture. As this plant is a starter plant it may not look exactly the same at the moment but will grow to be the same as the picture. The plug plant picture is used to give you an idea of size and may not be the same variety.

Is this plant hardy?

Yes, as with most Lavender plants this variety is hardy. Make sure you have a nice lot of drainage as this harm a lavender more than the cold.

What is a plug plant?

A plug plant is a small starter plant that is perfect to pot up in to a larger plant. We grow and sell so many of these because the allow us to do it for such a good price.
