Strawberry Mint: Over the last few years, fruit Mints have become very popular and Strawberry Mint is one of the best. The mid to dark green leaves have a slight point at the tip which make it an attractive plant in its own right. Although not often grown as an ornamental plant, Mints have very attractive flowers as well as good study habits so are well worth considering in a pot. But of course this Mint really shines in cooking, it can be used as you would any other Mint but where it’s best is in summer drinks like Pimms.

Chopped up in a fruit salad is also nice and you can almost use as much as you like because it really does grow very fast! Strawberry Mint has a lovely scent and a nice compact, sturdy habit. If you love Pimms then this is the Mint for you!

    About the Mint Strawberry

    Care Instructions

Mints generally enjoy moist, well drained soil. Water newly planted mints regularly, for at least a few months. Ensure they don't dry out, and keep an eye on ones in pots, as they tend to dry out a little quicker. Mint is very low maintenance.

    Position, sunlight and more

Mint thrives in both light and shade. Potted Mint can be planted right through the autumn. Pick often, to keep plant compact and producing new growth.

    Height and Spread

Strawberry Mint grows to around 60cm in height and if left to its own devices will spread a metre or more.

    Feeding, Pruning & more

Feeding - Fill with a multiopurpose compost, or an enriched garden compost.
Pruning - Mint dies back over winter, so remove faded stems in spring, before the new shoots start coming through.
Propogation -Take cuttings, which will give you new free plants and help stimulate, the parent plant. When mint finishes flowering in late summer, cut back the whole plant to around 5cm from base.

Our pot & plant size explained

At Newlands Nursery we grow and sell plants in a variety of different sizes, from small starter plants up to planted containers.

We know it can be tricky to picture the size of each plant. This page gives you an idea of the size of the plants we are sending out.

Please keep in mind that plants vary from one season to the next. The size of the plant refers to the pot or plug it is grown in, rather than the height of the plant, unless specifically mentioned on the plant page.

    Starter Plant (Plug Plant)

Plug Size: 2cm by 4cm. Our most popular size. This is often the most economical way of buying plants and is a great way to get a head start on the season. Generally this size is best to be potted up before planting out.
