On Todays 5minute Friday, we are going to show you how to plant Basil.
You can only really plant up Basil this time of year, if you have a warm windowsill, conservatory or heated greenhouse.
We have some very special Basils, they are cutting raised which means that they are a little stronger, making them easier to grow in the UK. They have great colour and can all be used in cooking.
We have a good variety of basil, I will be planting 3 up, but there are ones here like, Magic Mountain Purple, Magic Mountain White, or green leaf basil.
I am going to plant Basil Coldasil, which has been bred to tolerate cooler conditions, basil really doesn’t like the cold. Basil Red Ball, which as you can see has a lovely red/purple tinge to the leaf. This is very good for cooking, reminiscent of a Thai basil. My 3rd one is Basil Pesto which looks great, with very light green leaves, tinged with white.
Perfect for the cook and gardener. Pop it on Pasta, Pizza's. Chop it on fresh salad, soups, or smash it into your avocado. Basil is the kitchen must have.

6 Basil Plug plants, all of which can be used in cooking or drinks. You will get 33 varieties, 2 of each type.
- These are plug plants, so I will take one of each.
- Fill the container with a nice well-draining compost.
- Make 3 holes, I am going for a triangle shape,
- Place the plugs in and gently tuck it in, not compacting it, just firming it down gently.
- Give it a nice water, and then it needs to be kept at room temperature, definitely not outside, perhaps a nice dry windowsill, keep it moist, and before you know it, it will start rooting. A lot of people lose Basil by putting it outside too early, so for us here in Essex, this won’t go outside until June, depending on weather.

Hi Carol, as long as there is enough light for the Basil yes it will grow well
Would this basil be ok on my bathroom window sill as its warm in there my conservatory will be to cold i think
