How to care for Geranium plug plants & gardening tips on potting them up.

Hi everyone, Alan from Newlands Nursery.

At this time of year we start to notice the root growth on our geraniums, and they are producing lovely leaves.  Now it’s time to pot them up. We do get asked a lot about the paper around our plug plants, the answer is, it’s biodegradable and doesn’t need to be removed. We recommend starting with around a 9cm pot, it can then be transferred later, when there is more root growth.

You can please everyone with the vibrancy of colours, as there is literally no end to the rainbows created with geraniums, all with a nod to nostalgia.  My children love using the Fairy range, as little lily pads in their fairy garden.

Fun Tip – Add to a small jar of water, for a delicate addition to your dressing table or favourite reading spot.

Potting up your Geranium Plug Plants

  1. Fill a 9cm pot with compost and tap it gently.
  2. Make a hole roughly the same size and height of the plug plant.
  3. The top of the root ball should be level with the surface of the pot. (Details in video)
  4. Pop the plug in the hole and loosely cover with soil.
  5. Water and keep indoors for now.
