5 Minute Friday - Top Dressing Containers

5 Minute Friday - Top Dressing Containers

Top dress your containers to reduce evaporation!

This week I’m showing you how to top dress a container, reducing the amount of watering you'll need to do in the summer months!

Why top dress?

Top dressing helps to trap some water in in the soil during the hotter months, meaning your plants are less likely to dry out between waters, plus it reduces the amount of watering you'll have to do, saving you money on your water bill!

Not only this but it will also help hold weeds back, making your containers look a little nicer.

What You’ll Need:

  • A container

  • Top dressing material (bark, stones, gravel, slate, etc.)

Step-by-Step:

  1. Take your material and cover the soil in the container in a layer of it
  2. Go around the entire container a few times to ensure you've got everything covered
  3. Water as usual

Aftercare:

Keep checking the plant as regularly as you usually would, and water depending on the needs of the container.
