Growing Hellebores
This week's 5 Minute Friday is a little different as I'm not showing you how to do a specific task in the garden. This week I am talking about my top tips for getting the most out of your hellebores, from where and when to plant, to keeping them alive year on year.
Why Now?
This is the ideal time to plant hellebores as it gives them time to establish themselves before they flower in the late winter. Hellebores are almost always the first plants to flower in the year, brightening up an otherwise dormant garden with dazzling pops of colour and beautifully intricate petal formations.
Top Tips
- Plant your hellebores in dappled shade, they don't like full sun but will thrive in the ground or containers under trees and bushes that provide some cover for them.
- Don't let them dry out, they like to be kept damp all year round, especially in the summer and if they are planted in containers.
- Make sure you feed them when you begin to see new growth to ensure that you get the most out of the blooming season for these incredible flowers.
